About the Windermere Valley ...
The picturesque
community of Windermere is located a short five minute drive on Hwy 93/95 from
Invermere on the east side of Lake Windermere. "Primary cottage country" this
town offers everything for the visiting vacationer. Easy lake access makes
Windermere a popular spot for fishing, swimming, water-skiing, windsurfing,
hangliding and golf.
Established in 1810 as a trading post, today
Invermere is a thriving tourist centre and a great place to live. Invermere
means "at the mouth of the lake". In 1890, due to some mining excitement, it was
named "Copper City". The name was later changed to Invermere. Nestled in the
valley between the Rockies and Purcell Mountain ranges (the valley of a thousand
peaks), this community offers a full spectrum of outdoor activities to visitor
and residents alike.
