The
world over, when people think of Canada, they think of the glory of the Rockies.
When you combine this with the upper reaches of the mighty Columbia, you have an
unsurpassed natural setting.
- Robert Bateman 2004
Summer is when we believe, all of a sudden, that if we just
walked out the back door and kept on going long enough and far enough we would
reach the Rocky Mountains.
- Edward Hoagland
A good start for making a town's acquaintance is to visit its morning
markets, and I do not mean market halls but the temporary kind that consists of
collapsible stalls put up for a few hours in a street or a square. Disagreeable
as shopping in inclement weather may be to people addicted to the indoors,
open-air markets are more than a match for hermetic stores. There is nothing
like fresh air and daylight; the knowledgeable shopper prefers the least tidy
street market to the air-conditioned morgue of a supermarket.
- Bernard Rudofsky
No bird ever flew nonstop from New York to Tokyo, or raced 15 miles high at
triple the speed of sound. But birds do something else. They do not conquer the
air; they romance it.
- Peter Garrison
The influence of fine scenery, the presence of mountains,
appeases our irritations and elevates our friendships.
- Emerson 1860
I have never been happier, more exhilarated, at peace, rested, inspired, and
aware of the grandeur of the universe and the greatness of God than when I find
myself in a natural setting not much changed from the way He made it.
- Jimmy Carter,
An Outdoor Journal 1988
Life is very nice, but it lacks form. It's the aim of art to give it
some.
- Jean Anouilh, 1950
You haven't seen a tree until you've seen its shadow from the sky.
- Amelia Earhart
The air up there in the clouds is very pure and fine, bracing and delicious.
And why shouldn't it be? -- it is the same the angels breathe
- Mark Twain
The tourist burned up all the film they had as we would come in and swoop
down over them ... Better than any thermal flying. You can feel the energy of
the site seers as they would yell at you to do it again.
- C. Christensen
There are two types of fisherman - those who
fish for sport and those who fish for fish.
- Author Unknown
The fishing was good; it was the catching
that was bad.
- A.K. Best
There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you.... In spring,
summer and fall people sort of have an open season on each other; only in the
winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor
belonging to yourself.
- Ruth Stout
Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow
into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness
into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn
leaves
- John Muir
